5 March – Our redpolls have now been joined by siskins. Despite the cold snap we’ve had for the past few days it’s beginning to really feel like spring. The woodpeckers certainly think so and are busy drumming. I saw a long tailed tit the other day with so much nest material in its tiny beak that I could barely see its face. I was delighted to see a peregrine near the top of the Nestle building in Croydon on my way back from work the other day.
8 March – M spotted a blackcap on the birdfeeder this morning.
Sarah N: heard my first chiffchaff in the woods yesterday (24th March) – a few days later than usual despite the warmer weather.
