30 days wild – 18. Woodberry Wetlands, Hackney

This is another one of the sites which is not open at the moment, but is one I’ve visited often so know well what it looks like from inside.

Although not much more than a big pond with some nice planting in the shadow of blocks of flats, it’s so much more than that.  During one memorable winter visit, I saw a pair of goldcrests feeding in woodland walk and then a kingfisher zipped by me along the water as I left.

I’m looking forward to coming back when it re-opens.  In the meantime here’s some starry Traveller’s Joy flowers.
