June 2015

What an amazing start to the month with…

– three of our four baby blue tits fledging successfully on the last day of May

– a buzzard and sparrowhawk flying over the garden on 6th June

– a hummingbird hawkmoth feeding on the red valerian in our garden on 7th June

– and a hedgehog in a neighbour’s garden on the 8th June

Not to mention the elderflower in glorious full bloom.

We now have a great spotted woodpecker and a jay which both regularly visit the garden – often at the same time.

More sightings in June:

– a hummingbird hawkmoth on 16th June

Animal rescue yesterday 18th June for a hedgehog in a neighbour’s walled garden. Looked like it had fallen down steep steps and then been unable to get out, so was probably stuck there with little shade all day. R ushered it into a box and we left it hidden under a bush with catfood and water.  Happily (we hope) it wasn’t there when we went back.

28th June – two froglets spotted in our pond. After years of effort, at last our very own frogs.
