March 2015

R and I saw our first honey bees on the first day of the month in a neighbours’ crocus patch.  Our local bird expert D told me not to worry that we haven’t had any lesser red polls in the garden this month.  As they’re passing through, this may not reflect population numbers but simply be because there’s more winter food elsewhere.  The white headed long tailed tit is still around, and frequently seen on its own.  Today 6th March saw my first bumblebee of the year.

S reported hearing her first chiff chaff in woods on 28th of March which is later than recent years.
