A chilly start to May but a lovely stretch of bluebells in the woods.
I heard a mysterious mechanical buzzing coming from a tree and the mystery was solved when an adult parakeet appeared to feed its young, the call reaching a crescendo as the adult perched by the nest hole.
A cuckoo followed me through the woods on the third of May. Then on Mayday bank holiday, we saw our first swifts – a pair wheeling high above the woods. Later the same day I saw the sparrowhawk circling above the tree tops too.
